Tasting Note

Reserve Bin 27 is a perfect example of the Fonseca house style. Deep youthful ruby colour. An intense rich fruity nose of blackberry, cassis, cherry and plums, interwoven with notes of spice. The palate is full bodied and round, with a smooth velvety texture and mouth filling tannins. The juicy black fruit flavours of cherry and blackcurrant linger into the rich luscious finish.

Try this with chocolate and berry fruit dishes, like brownie or truffles. It is also an excellent match for soft ripe cheeses.

Founded in 1815, Fonseca is considered one of the leading Port Houses, famed for its Vintage Ports. Fonseca’s three quintas are at the heart of the House’s idiosyncratic style of Port. The vineyards are located on soils of schist that has useful water retention which helps combat the effects of the hot, dry summer temperatures. The two Pinhão Valley estates of Quinta do Cruzeiro and Quinta de Santo António, have supplied Fonseca for over a hundred years. Quinta do Panascal in the Távora Valley has a more recent association with Fonseca, but its wines perfectly complement those of the two Pinhão Valley properties. Quinta do Panascal was one of the first properties to have organically certified vineyards as early as 1992, whilst Quinta de Santo António is a prize-winning model of sustainable viticulture producing both grapes and olive oil.

Fonseca Bin 27 was launched in Britain 40 years ago and today, continues to be blended from selected reserve Ports chosen for their smooth, round, full bodied palate and their fine, intense fruit character. Some of these wines are drawn from Fonseca’s own estates and others made from grapes supplied by independent farmers with which the company maintains a close relationship. The wines are matured in large seasoned oak vats to give them smoothness and complexity while retaining their intense and vibrant fruit character. Blended for consistency of character and quintessentially Fonseca in style Bin 27 is bottled when ready to drink.
