Mount Sutherland Syrah 2016

This is a truly exceptional Syrah from all organic vineyards on South Africa's highest vineyards at 1500m above sea level. Aged for 14 months in French oak barrels, around 20% of which was new to soften the tannins, marry the wine and adda little structure and oak character without overpowering the fruit. There's black cherries, hints of rose and cloves with that signature Syrah white pepper spice. It's rich with plush tannins and a concentrated, ripe, fruity finish. This is a good choice to squirrel away in the cellar and see how it develops over the next 5 years. 

There has never been a single drop of insecticide or pesticide sprayed on these vineyards, they're full organic and benefit from their altitude and cold winters in that there are no diseases. This brings it's own challenges but the benefits of the climate produce intense, concentrated grapes.

Pop this in a decanter at the dinner table, sunday afternoon, leg of lamb, roast potatoes, all the trimmings. Perfect.
